“My name is Laurie Nelson, and I work as Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel of Autoscribe.”
What do you do at Autoscribe?
“As Chief Compliance Officer, I have to oversee everything as it relates to compliance. This includes compliance requests as they come in from our customers, as well as insuring that our product that we put out is the most compliant possible. This may sound simple, but it’s quite complicated as regulations change daily. My role as General Counsel can go across the board. I work with the company to address any type of legal issues, review contracts that come into play, review products when they go out to the market just to ensure that they are meeting all the legal guidelines that they need to today.”
What does this award mean to you?
“It was nice to be recognized, and it meant a lot to me to see that women are being more recognized in the business environment. Being that, even still, it does feel that you’re the minority.”
What inspires you to do great things?
“I would have to say my children. I have a 3-year-old daughter at home as well as a 16-month-old son, and everything I do outside of the home is time away from them, so I make sure that I use the time wisely to ensure that I’m trying to make a difference, because it’s not fair to them if I’m not.”
Do you have any advice to other women?
“Just work hard. Find a company that recognizes your value. A good company these days is hard to find, and you really need to ensure that you like the people you work with, that you like your job — they pay you to be here for a reason but, because of course, people would rather not work, however there’s no harm in loving your job. And so, find something that you love to do.”
